The William & Mary Libraries Special Collections Research Center contains hundreds of diaries and journals kept by women from the 1800's to the 1900's. These diaries and journals record the thoughts, daily activities, and family life of women, who were plantation mistresses, farmers, textile workers, veterans, officers' wives, missionaries, teachers, housewives, housekeepers, William & Mary alumnae, students, and teenagers. These women lived in many different places, not just Virginia, and some of them were well-traveled, recording their visits to other places in the United States, as well as trips overseas, including Europe, China, Africa, India, and the Middle East.
