I took advantage of the mistake &
got my orders to report to Saint
Aignan 1" replacement depot.
Leaving Bordeaux that P.M. arriving
St. Aignan before breakfast of 7"
ate at Bakery Co. Mess. Reported
at Adj. Of. and had orders send-
ing me to Maron - division depot.
reaching there late P.M. 
Bedding-roll & trunk failed to
arrive St. A - so had to leave without
them. Camp at Maron in woods about
2 mi. from station.  Had no cover
& unable to get any that night so
had rather uncomfortable night
tho not so very cold.  Met 2 Marine
Lts. who were going up front.
Gallivan & Shelton
Remained at Maron for 3 days
leaving 9" went to Maron via Tours,
Paris. spending night of 7" in
Paris leaving 8 A.M. on 8th
Got 3 blankets, some underwear, sox
+c. at A.M.
Left Marion after dark &
traveled in truck over the darkest
road I ever saw with no lights -
arriving Hdqrs. 2" Div. about
midnight, slept on floor in
office, ate breakfast with Reed
Terry & the bunch.  Donnelly, Clap-
haph & others, Manonville -
got orders for temporary duty
with F.H. #1 on Sep.11" St. Mihiel
drive just starting hospital at
Noviant. Reported morning of 11"
as hosp. was ready to move into
Thiacourt. Big naval gun just
1 Kil. behind tent & with each
shot the tent would quiver &
shake and it sounded as if the
earth would crack.  Seemed
rather strange that the shell
couldn't be seen as could follow
its whine so clearly.
