Chateau Thierry - Belleau Woods

Paris 30th

Took auto & had a lovely ride. through

the beautiful Marne valley.

Came to heavy woods - where remains

of Big Betha was - mammoth affair

got bolts etc. from it. Saw many

German prisoners.

Then to Belleau Woods where our boys

made such a sacrifice - but worse -

many graves. woods well devastated

many traps & bones. miracle our

boys won. G so well fortified.

Began to snow. & sold - visited cemetery

& several devastated towns. Took train

for Paris - tired - but well repaid.

although depressed. Still grateful

Paris - shopping - Louvres - Nap. Tomb

stores - papers & train for Brest.
