                                  December
15-19

 Concerned, certainly quite a
jolt as our leaving has already
become quite a joke & now
no one has any great hopes of
getting away Sat. & we await
anxiously to see what that day
       will bring forth.
       Ditty reached home Saturday
       the 15".
20-24
           These days full of excitement
over prospect of leaving as twas
given out we'd get away 22 so
all began to pack up & get
       straightened out and for the
first time actually began to believe
we were going to get into the
       game so could hear expressions
of joy on every hand and Sun-
       day right before leaving no
one hardly went to bed.  All
       packed except bedding-roll, so
up before daylight & eager to
       be off. Several changes made
as to what section Med. Off.
       to go with.
       Had slow and rather unevent-
ful trip to Camp Merritt, N.J.
       getting glad hand from Red-
Cross ladies at Phila & a welcome
       from every whistle when going
thru Jersey City - arrived Camp.
       5 P.M. afternoon 24". Found nice
       Camp- good barracks, officers
       steam heated & everything very
nice.  Expected to be there for
4 or 5 days but delays kept us
till Monday, Jany 7" - meantime
       we went thru some anxious
waiting as at Chick- but [A.M.?]
of 7" we were off at 11 A.M.
to take Erie to Jersey City, ferry
to Pier 54 Hoboken where [boared?]
       R.M.S. Aurania 13,000 Tons and
were off about 6 next A.M.
       passing Liberty about 7:30.
heading NNE, & kept at it till
       we dropped anchor in Halifax
        N.S. about 11 A.M. Jany. 10"
