I hoped to have it in my power to

thank the "Ladies of Ingleside" in

person for their kindness and sym-

-pathy, but have been suffering from an

old wound which has prevented my doing

so, and obliges me now to return to

Carolina for a time, will they permit

me to thank them in my own name

and that of his Mothers, who does it with

her whole heart – and I thank you

too for having it in my power to Con-

sole her, in the loss of her son, that

his grave will be watched over though

so far away by the warm hearts of

Virginian women who claim an interest in the

memory of those that fell in their de-

-fence; I have received though our

young friends who so often enjoy your

hospitality, your kind offer to attend

to his grave and see that it was treated with

that respect that all would ask for those they

love – and leave it in good hands untill a

better hour and a brighter day enables us to move

it  - with great respect Truly yours – Ed Mortimer Boykin
