AUGUST 17

Up early and into Jamaica to

take the train out on the Island to

spend the day with the Hogans at

their cottage in Rocky Point.  It

was a quietly peaceful day and I

enjoyed myself a great deal.  They’re

such nice people!

When I came home there was lots

of birthday mail waiting for me,

which had accumulated due to

the mailman’s two-day holiday.  There

was also a cute letter from Jimmy

but no mail from Bill.  Though I

just heard from him Tuesday I’m

anxious to get a more recent letter

in hopes that he didn’t leave Europe

before the War Dept. order for men

previously scheduled to go direct to

the Pacific to come back to the

States instead.  My fingers are

really crossed.
