Heading (over two pages): Letters from two College Presidents Along left side: PRESIDENT PASCHALL Letter from President Davis Y. Paschall: THE COLLEGE OF WILLIAM AND MARY IN VIRGINIA WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA 23185 June 3, 1974 Dr. Carl A. Fehr College of Williams and Mary Williamsburg, Virginia Dear "Pappy," The long history of William and Mary is highlihted by the contribution of certain individuals who served so distinctively as to become "institutions" in themselves. I salute you as one of these who has touched the lives of so many students in great music, high song, and cherished ideals. Such a person never really retires. His immortality is already about him in the countless numbers he has influenced for a better life, and for a sacred feeling for Alma Mater. In this highter sense, he is truly the one enduring link that has knit the generations, each to each, at William and Mary. I have observed so many returning alumni "beat a path" to your door to voice their appreciation, to pay their respect, and to assure their remembrance. I do so now by this letter. Agnes and I were so often moved by the magnificent performances of the choir and chorus under your direction, and I received a host of letters nationwide congratulating the College on having such "ambassadors" of inspiration, talent and achievement. This is my hallmark recollection of your superbly great leadership, devotion and dedicated service that meant so much to the College and to me as President. Despite the adverse winds that blew at times, you stood firm and enduring as a rock when it came to expectation of high parformance, decorum, good taste, ideals, and those traditions that now enhance the memories of so many alumni. Through it all, we recognize Alice as a contributing, silent partner and Agnes and I wish for you both the very best. Sincerely, Pat--Davis Y. Paschall
